Karst Scholarship

Scholarship Information
Sponsor: South Dakota Association of Conservation District Employees (SDACDE)
Qualifications: The recipient will be a current year graduate of a South Dakota High School. The recipient shall have graduated in the upper 50% of the class. The recipient will be a student going into an agricultural related field.
Payment:
Three (3) $500 Scholarships Offered.
Payment will be rendered to the recipient. The amount of the scholarship is $300 to be paid upon completion of 2nd semester registration. The scholarship money will be used for buying books or any other college use
Presentation: The award will be presented at the recipient’s annual school awards program.
Selection Criteria:
1. Personal (employment, extra curricular, honors, community service) – 40%
2. Brief description of education and career goals – 30%
3. Academic (grades & class rank) – 10%
4. Letters of recommendation (2) – 10%
5. Financial Need – 10%
Scholarship History
The South Dakota Association of Conservation District employees (SDACDE) set up the Karst Memorial Scholarship in 1995 in memory of a fellow employee, David Karst, who passed away in 1992.David Karst was employed with the Edmunds County Conservation District as District Manager from October 1972 until the time of his death on September 16, 1992. He was very active in the soil and water conservation movement and dedicated to educating our youth on the benefits of conserving our natural resources. David was named 1981 Outstanding Employee of the South Dakota Association of Conservation District Employees and also Honorary Chapter Farmer by the Bowdle Vocational FFA. In 1983 he was recognized for his service to the South Dakota Association of Conservation District Employees. In 1984 he was named Outstanding Alumni Member of Vocational FFA and in 1991 he received the Honorary State FFA Degree.The SDACDE is offering four $300 scholarships. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage those students concerned with conserving their natural resources by furthering their education in an agricultural related field. The scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors who will be attending a 4-year college or a vocational school.
