Locally Led Success Eco Ed Day at Fort Sisseton
Marshall County Conservation District and the Marshall County Extension Service started Eco Ed Day for Marshall County seventh graders 10 years ago. It was fashioned after the award winning North Dakota Eco Ed Camp and is held at the beautiful, historical Fort Sisseton each year. This one day camp gives participants a chance to learn about five of our natural resources in an outdoor setting. These resources include Grass and Rangeland, Wetlands, Soils, Water Quality and Forestry. They also learn the importance of careful stewardship of these resources. Each year  specialists in their field from NRCS, USFWS, Forestry or District personnel are instructors for the day.   Students and their teachers have commented on the positive, fun learning experience.
Other Educational Events
The Conservation District also promotes other learning experiences for students throughout each year. Some of these are Arbor Day Activities with third graders, the Northern Prairie Water Festival held at the Barnett Center for Fourth graders, the Arbor Day Essay Contest for 5th and 6th graders, a regional Land and Range Judging Contest for High School students and a Natural Resource Speech Contest for High School students. We also highlight our annual activities with a booth at the Britton Winter Festival each year.
